Biography
I am Serena Aurora, an aspiring independent filmmaker specializing in cinematography, directing and editing. Having worked in the industry for over 10 years, I have gathered experience in several other aspects of filmmaking medium by taking up various roles and positions: from pre-production and scripting, to production filming and post-production editing, making it all the way to distribution and exhibition. I traveled for many years, guided by an irresistible calling towards sustainability and regenerative communal living. When visiting organic farms, eco villages and intentional communities I made films as gifts – Aurora’s Eye Films – that gave them a voice. Witnessing the impact it had on education and consciousness set me on a mission:
Now the goal is to create documentary films that are creative and unbiased as possible, so people may see the different possibilities out there and share them with others as we come together to help manifest our spaces of belonging.
I have begun realizing this goal at Auroville, an international community in South India, where I live in a community. Aurora’s Eye Films continues as an activity, documenting the growth of the city, building bridges within Auroville, and with the world outside. Preferring to use first takes and not use any script, my style of filmmaking has evolved around the intention of focusing on the truth. What you see is what you get – quite literally what I see through my eyes – Aurora’s Eye. For many years I did all the camera shots, the editing and sometimes even the sound design. Now, there is a slowly expanding tribe of enthusiastic individuals each uniquely contributing to documenting the truth.

Aurora’s Eye Films
Growing up in Kuilapalayam near Auroville, I studied computer engineering then a degree on digital filmmaking to follow my passion. I was part of many big Tamil movie productions as director of photography, editor, graphics, special effects, etc. My dream is to make a feature film. My family has been long connected with Auroville, with my grandfather helping during the construction of the MatriMandir. Serena and I started collaborating for the highway film and I continue to help alongside other projects of my own.
Born in Russia, and moved to Australia at the age of 14. Deeply touched by intentions behind Auroville and the work achieved, I joined in 2019, to endeavour to help to discover how else humanity may choose to live on this amazing planet. Inspired by the hard working attitude and the well-meaning behind Aurora Eye, I was glad to take up post-production sound work to assist. I had been learning and experimenting with sound engineering in the last 8 years or so, using Ableton Live software. I look forward to grow together as a team, in the nesting of this Auroville unit.
Born in Kerala and studied at banglore University. I came to auroville in 2022 in search for something new. I hoped to find a place I could explore my creativity and experience living in communities. When I was 20 I brought my first camera and I haven’t put it down ever since. Whether I’m shooting something well planned out or just a moment in time it’s a way for me to express my self. Now working in Aurora’s Eye Films as a junior editor I plan to keep expanding my knowledge of film until I can one day make my own.
